sorry a thing real quick

i’ve been wrestling recently with an inability to make conversation with folks like “coworkers” and “parents.” even though all the time i am having a lot of thoughts and experiences that i would like to share with others.

the problem is that i haven’t figured out the trick of being Not A Boor on subjects that interest me. ex: i can’t just be like “mom, you know what i like about this perfume? it smells pretty.” “hey boss i seen you playing that macklemore a bunch, you might like drake.” (sick burn on drake hssssss nailed it) (my boss does like “thrift shop” and makes a to-do over this fact)

no but seriously, this is where i need to be pitching my thoughts but it’s never like that. that’s not the level i want to discuss things at.

but that is the level at which it is necessary to be discussing things at if i mean to discuss them with these kinds of people.

“you know? i think it’s cool if working moms get more support with child care. nice weather out today.”

i don’t want to get too boring about japanese pop and rock from 1969-1992 but i think what is weirdest and most interesting is how many of the musical ideas from that period hit the states in essentially music-box form as video game music.

ymo/japan (the BAND, not the country) was one of the great conjunctions of japanese and uk/us popular music sob but for all i know shit like that is happening eight times a year and i am too out of it to know. the prospect depresses.

i’m going to make this short because i both enjoy and am frustrated by this fragrance.

anyway, celery rose. it’s not actually celery, it’s angelica, but an american nose will read that crisp fragrant green stem as like unto celery. laundry-like musk like i ran across in amouage silver for men. spice and frankincense powering the whole business but very low key, background hum. top notch materials, no complaints there. the final presentation is somewhere between “there’s a rosebush in bloom a block away” and a prodigally well-laundered bespoke dress shirt. this is a refined masculine floral with an air of dandification that suggests i ought to go sweat in it. very good, except…

what it makes me want is a masculine rose with sweat already in it. something a little juicier and more plush. what i really wanted when i was cruising my perfume drawer was “habanita, but with rose instead of vanilla.” i dunno if there exists a vetiver incense rose but i do have a sample of andy tauer’s “incense rose” which i’ll probably try tomorrow. i’ve also been told to try domenico caraceni 1913 so. let’s put that on the list.

i’m giving lyric man 3 out of 5 with the caveat that i can see it really hitting the spot if you are in the market for a crisp, starched kind of luxe in your manly rose. to be completely frank, i would love to smell this one on someone with BO. a note of caution: it acts light - the angelica is very bright, the rose very muted in tone - but it’s stronger than it appears and the throw is pronounced. go easy on the spray.
